It is almost upon us. Husker Football kicks off this Saturday, and my current Kool-Aid consumption is probably putting me at risk of Type II diabetes. But it’s nothing two doses of Ozempic and a mouthful of Tums can’t handle. With my blood sugar levels regulated and a slight buzz, let's take a dive into the 2024 Nebraska Football schedule to try to uncover what lies ahead:
2024 Nebraska Football Schedule:
(8/31) Nebraska vs. UTEP: Win
The Huskers will break their current 4-game losing streak in season openers and start their 2024 campaign with a win against the Miners . I also think Dylan Raiola announces his arrival to college football with a BANG and balls out to start his career at Nebraska!
(9/7) Nebraska vs. Colorado: Win
This will be a tougher game than many would like to admit, but I project the Buffs and their Louis Vuitton luggage will be headed back to Boulder worn, torn, and most importantly, carrying an L.
(9/14) Nebraska vs. Northern Iowa: Win
Nebraska will win this game handily, which would constitute a winning streak... something we haven’t seen around these parts in a while. Start getting used to it Husker Nation!
(9/20) Nebraska vs. Illinois: Win
Weird game. In Lincoln, but on a Friday (bullshit). The big orange man usually fields a scrappy team, but I think we’ll send them out of town with the whole weekend to think about their loss. Let’s keep winning and start doing away with Friday night games in Lincoln.
(9/28) Nebraska at Purdue: Win
This will be the Huskers' first away game. Out of the friendly confines, I think it may be the defense that steps up and carries us to victory here. 5-0 has a good ring to it.
(10/5) Nebraska vs. Rutgers: Loss
Call me a hater, but recent history tells me that we will slip up somewhere. This game feels like one that could go either way, but I have the Scarlet Knights winning and raining on Nebraska's Homecoming Game parade.
(10/19) Nebraska at Indiana: Win
With a new coach and new system, Indiana should be an improved team compared to last season. However, the Huskers are more talented and will be coming off a bye week, so I think they bounce back strong from the loss to Rutgers and bring home a win.
(10/26) Nebraska at Ohio State: Loss
As much as I'd like to believe the Huskers have a realistic chance to hang with the Buckeyes, I think the program is still a year or two away from that. Unfortunately, Ohio State shows us there's still work to be done before the Huskers are ready to compete with the top of the Big Ten.
(11/2) Nebraska vs. UCLA: Win
I'm in the camp that UCLA will likely experience some growing pains after joining the Big Ten this offseason. I think the Huskers welcome the Bruins to the conference by pounding the rock and introducing them to what it feels like to get hit in 20-degree wind chills in November.
(11/16) Nebraska at USC: Loss
Lincoln Riley consistently produces offenses that keep opponents on their toes. I'd love to believe that our defense will keep them out of the end zone enough to win, but this game is on the road, and I think the Trojans eke out a win in a high scoring shootout.
(11/23) Nebraska vs. Wisconsin: Loss
Maybe my blood sugar is too low, and I need more Kool-Aid... I hate myself for this, but my gut tells me the Badgers come to Lincoln and find a way to win this game.
(11/29) Nebraska at Iowa: Win
With both teams featuring stout defensive units, this game will likely be a close fought battle that comes down to a one-score game, just as it has over the past six matchups. In the end though, I think the Huskers ultimately prevail and cap off an overall successful 2024 regular season with a big road win at Kinnick Stadium.
Final Win-Loss Tally: 8-4
I think any realistic Husker fan would be pleased if we end up finishing the 2024 season with an overall record of 8-4. Not only would it make the Huskers bowl eligible for the first time in eight seasons, but it would also demonstrate that Coach Matt Rhule is well on his way towards successfully rebuilding Nebraska into a competitive football program that is once again relevant on the national scale.
Now that the season is just a few days away, it's time we remove the off-season championship rings and go win some real games. As always, GO BIG RED!
