Nebraska football scored a major victory on the recruiting trail after adding the commitment of QB TJ Lateef to its 2025 recruiting class. The 6’2 pro-style quarterback out of Orange Lutheran (CA) is rated as a consensus 4-star recruit and was recently invited to participate in the Elite 11 Finals, a prestigious event to showcase the nation’s top ranked high school quarterbacks.
High School Performance & Projected Potential
During his junior campaign, Lateef completed 63% of his passes while throwing for 1,965 yards and 13 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He also rushed for 230 yards and five touchdowns. Although these aren’t eye-popping statistics by any means, this was in part due to him missing time due to injury during the season, as well as a difference in overall talent across the rest of Orange Lutheran’s team compared to their competition.
Even though his stats may not jump off the page, his junior year film certainly tells a very different story and clearly showcases his stellar talent, most notably his impressive arm strength and accuracy across all three levels – short, intermediate, and down field throws. Despite being officially categorized as a pocket passer, Lateef is also a track and field guy, and he displays the ability to be a dual threat when the pocket breaks down or his receivers can't get open.
Recruitment & Reasons for Choosing Nebraska
Lateef was a highly coveted recruit with numerous offers from Power-5 programs, including the likes of Colorado, Florida State, Georgia, and Penn State.
Lateef took an official visit to Lincoln, NE in late April to take in the Huskers' Red-White Spring Game. He was clearly impressed by the trip to campus because he announced his decision to commit to Nebraska shortly thereafter on May 12th.
